Very good early example of this iconic weapon which was tied into the waist sash of the traditional dress with just the tip of the grip protruding. It is a 6 3/4” s.e. blade with a long false edge, the forte chiseled in scrolling foliage on both sides and inlaid with red pigment to the right. One piece bone grip with concentric circle decoration, the base with wire wrap (a few wraps missing) Tooled red “Morocco” leather covered scabbard. The leather shrunk with age. Excellent for the period. A slashing knife kept concealed, at the ready. Made without a guard as it was used clandestinely for a surprise attack and not for fighting.
